We find ourselves at a critical turning point in human history.
From the garment workers of Dhaka to the delivery drivers of Dublin, workers everywhere are exploited by corporations that seek to destroy their collective power to resist.
850 million people go to bed hungry each night, while a handful of corporations reap enormous profits from the global food system.
The world spent $2 trillion on weapons of war in 2021, even while the planetary ecosystem hangs in the balance and demands that we work together on humanity's great challenges.
And, as the nations of the world look toward a new future of cooperation and sovereign development, sanctions, wars, unfair trade deals and international financial institutions prevent them from pursuing paths of dignity and liberation.
The Progressive International launched in May 2020 with a mission to unite, organize and mobilize the world's progressive forces — building connections across borders and struggles to make solidarity more than a slogan.
What does that mean in practice?
It means that we bring together movements, unions, parties, and people to match the scale of our actions to the scale of the crises we face today — turning local action into global struggle. Our Make Amazon Pay campaign brought together unions and movements from 20 countries on five continents to organise the biggest global strike against Amazon in history.
And it means that we activate our powerful international network to support, strengthen, and defend progressive forces in their struggles around the world — focusing the vigilance of the world on critical local struggles. From Bolivia to Colombia, our Observatory created critical breathing room for progressive struggles, supporting democratic victories that changed the course of history.
