When journalists are silenced, corruption wins.

Dear Reader,

No journalist should face threats, intimidation or arrest simply for seeking the truth. But in many parts of the world, that's the risk investigative reporters take every day.

One of our journalists recently traveled to Equatorial Guinea to uncover how millions in public funds were being siphoned off by those in power. Instead of answers, Micah was met with hostility, false accusations and the looming threat of imprisonment — all for doing his job.

He was fortunate to make it home safely. But many others who report from authoritarian countries are not so lucky.

I encourage you to read Micah's full story here.

At ICIJ, we believe that shining a light on corruption, abuse of power and financial secrecy is essential — especially where silence is enforced through fear.

If you believe that too, and want to see fearless journalism like this, please support our work today.

With gratitude,
