The Intergovernmental Working Group on older persons is an open-ended intergovernmental body. Its primary mandate is to elaborate a comprehensive, internationally legally binding instrument on the human rights of older persons, with the objective of promoting, protecting, and ensuring the full enjoyment of human rights by older persons.
The World Day of Social Justice, observed annually by the United Nations on 20 February, is a global reminder of the urgent need to build fairer, inclusive, and sustainable societies. The 2026 observance is of particular significance as it follows the Second World Summit on Social Development, held in Doha in November 2025.
