Friday 10 July 2026, 13:15-14:45 PM
UN Headquarters, Dag Hammarskjöld Library Reading Room (L-105)
The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be convened from Tuesday, 7 July, to Wednesday, 15 July 2026, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The theme of the HLPF is “Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future for all”. For the ninth year, a series of Voluntary National Review (VNR) Labs is being convened on the margins of the HLPF.
The UN Foundation, the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders Coordination Mechanism (MGoS CM), and UNDESA will collaborate to organize a VNR Lab focused on stakeholder engagement in VNR processes. With only four years remaining until the 2030 deadline, this VNR Lab offers a needed space to reflect on how inclusive approaches to SDG reporting have evolved and where they must take us in the final stretch.
As the world approaches 2030 and begins laying the groundwork for the SDG Summit in 2027, the session will bring together Member States, stakeholders and representatives of the UN System to share lessons learned, highlight effective collaboration throughout the VNR process, and explore how multi-stakeholder engagement, including youth engagement and the use of citizen-generated data and participatory monitoring approaches, can enhance accountability and accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals amid ongoing global challenges.
- Provide a platform for Member States, stakeholders, and the UN System to discuss challenges, good practices, and lessons learned in inclusive and evidence-informed SDG reporting.
- Spotlight successful collaboration between Member States and stakeholders in strengthening transparency, accountability, and meaningful participation throughout the VNR processes.
- Explore how youth engagement, as well as citizen-generated data and community-led monitoring, can contribute to more inclusive, participatory, and accountable VNR processes in the final stretch to 2030.
- Reflect on how stakeholder engagement in VNRs has evolved over the past decade, including in contexts of shrinking civic space and growing challenges to inclusive policymaking.
- Build momentum for key milestones ahead, including the 2027 SDG Summit and discussions on the future of accountability and participation beyond 2030.
The programme will be posted in due time on this webpage.
*Everyone with a valid UN ground pass or HLFP badge will be able to join this VNR Lab. There is no registration, and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis up to the capacity of the room (estimated 40 participants).
