Stage Set for Bangkok, Livestream Available | Climate and SDG Synergies Conference
Stage Is Set in Bangkok for Opening of Dynamic Conference to Drive Integrated Action on Climate and Sustainable Development Crises
Government Ministers, international leaders and experts, youth and activists are converging on Bangkok for the opening on Monday, 29 June of the Seventh Global Conference on Climate and SDG Synergies, which is shaping up to be a game-changing event.
The two-day meeting brings together key figures aiming to spearhead integrated solutions to the many interlinked crises the world faces -- climate impacts, geopolitical tensions, environmental devastation and disruptions to energy and food supplies.
The conference will kick off with welcoming remarks by senior officials from the co-convening organizations, UN DESA and the UNFCCC secretariat, and from ESCAP as a collaborating partner, along with scene-setting evidence and analysis by academics from the Expert Group on Climate and SDG Synergies, on the benefits and obstacles to integrated action. Indigenous NGOs and other activists will share their perspectives on the value of all-of-society approaches to climate and SDG action.

High-Level and Regional Voices
A high-level segment on Tuesday morning will hear from UN leadership and a number of Ministers who lead the government offices being called to break down silos and integrate policy and action across sectors. Roundtables will focus on specific issues such as energy transition; unlocking needed finance; sustainable transport; climate justice and challenges faced by small island nations; nature-based climate solutions; smart cities; and utilizing national NDCs to align climate and SDG goals.
An Asia-Pacific Synergy Report will be launched, as produced by ADB, ESCAP, IGES, UN Environment, and Japan’s Ministry of Environment, presenting case studies from across the region on how to integrate action on the SDGs and the triple planetary crisis. A back-to-back session of ESCAP's ministerial-level Committee on Environment and Development will include consideration of a regional action plan on synergies when it meets starting 1 July.
