Trump pulls nomination for surgeon general nominee Means and says he'll put forth Saphier
|
President Donald Trump says he’s nominating former Fox News Channel contributor and radiologist Dr. Nicole Saphier for surgeon general after Dr. Casey Means’ path forward stalled in the Senate after a tense confirmation hearing. Senators of both major political parties grilled Means about her stance on vaccines and other health topics, raising doubts about her ability to secure the votes needed for the role. Read more.

Louisiana congressional primaries are suspended as a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling
|
Louisiana’s congressional primaries won’t be going forward as scheduled in May, as a result of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down a majority Black congressional district, the state’s top elected officials said Thursday. Gov. Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill, both Republicans, said in a joint statement that Wednesday’s high court ruling effectively prohibits the state from carrying out the primaries under the current districts. Early voting had been scheduled to begin Saturday in advance of the May 16 primary. Read more.

Ukraine bets on battlefield AI as the race for weapons autonomy intensifies
|
Ukraine is accelerating the use of artificial intelligence to retain an edge on the battlefield, as the war with Russia enters a new technological phase. In an interview with the AP, the head of an AI defense agency, Danylo Tsvok, said AI is helping Ukraine hold ground while reducing risks to its soldiers. Read more.
