Trump says he'll move to suspend the federal gasoline tax. He can't do it on his own
|
President Donald Trump said Monday he will move to suspend the federal tax on gasoline to help Americans shoulder surging fuel prices caused by the Iran war. The president cannot suspend the federal tax on his own. Congress would have to approve the move. Lawmakers from both parties have pushed for a gas-tax suspension, saying it would provide much-needed relief for families and businesses. Read more.

Voter confusion and headaches for election officials follow hasty GOP push to redraw US House seats
|
Republicans’ rush to gerrymander congressional districts across several Southern states after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling hollowed out the Voting Rights Act is confusing voters and creating logistical headaches for local election officials. The changes are hitting while primary season is in progress. Thousands of Louisiana residents have voted early for congressional candidates in what soon could be the wrong districts. Alabama’s primaries are a week away, but the state could force a do-over for voting on U.S. House races. Read more.

A Tennessee doctor is reconciling his work in reproductive medicine with his Christian faith. Dr. John Gordon’s Knoxville clinic limits how many embryos it creates and does not discard viable embryos, genetically test them or donate them to science. Photos show climbers attempting to scale Mount Everest despite increasing challenges
|
Hundreds of climbers are attempting to scale Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, despite an unstable ice block dangerously hanging over the key trail, high travel costs and increased permit fees. Around 492 climbers and an equal number of Nepali climbing guides are gearing up for the ascent to the nearly 8,850-meter high peak this month during the much anticipated window of good weather on the mountain.
