The Supreme Court on Wednesday weakened a landmark Civil Rights-era law that has increased minority representation in Congress and elsewhere, striking down a majority Black congressional district in Louisiana and opening the door for more redistricting across the country that could aid Republican efforts to control the House. Push for raw milk intensifies across the US, despite illness outbreaks and scientists’ warnings
|
Backers of raw milk are pushing to make the potentially dangerous product more widely available and easier to obtain, even as a new outbreak — one of at least five in the past year — sickens U.S. children. More than three dozen bills supporting raw milk have been introduced in statehouses across the nation, the AP found. A growing number of states are making it legal to sell. Dairy farmers say they can barely keep it in stock, even though prices can exceed $10 or $20 a gallon. Read more.

Colombians are divided over the fate of hippos linked to Pablo Escobar

In Colombia, hippos introduced by Pablo Escobar in the 1980s have become a major issue as the population has grown to around 200, causing safety concerns for locals and tourists. The government plans to euthanize about 80 hippos to control the population, sparking a heated debate. Read more.
